Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Ticket Prices vs. Experience

Everyone has their own reasons for "getting on the bus" and for staying there or getting off. Also what they got out of/ are still getting from the trip.

For me the Grateful Dead were a band of musicians lead first by Pigpen and then onward by Jerry Garcia. It was always about the music first and foremost for me. These guys were there put on a concert, and play for their fans who paid to see them. And the whole peace, pot, microdot stuff and all the cosmic togetherness noise was something of a nice thought in theory, but was also sort of annoying.

Then again I didn't see my first show till '91, and almost disliked going to shows because of how bad it could be musically.

For me the decision to go or not to go comes down to economic value. I just don't see how I'm going to get my money's worth with this lineup, and nor do I see any way this lineup is going to do anything that special in terms of channeling the magic we all crave.

I didn't go to many shows when Jer was around as it was because it seemed I ended up spending so much money to go to a huge party, and hear mediocre music.
